The gift of food to the hungry is the noblest of all gifts. – BABA
Food Aid, also known as Food Distribution to the Needy, is the oldest seva programme at the Sai Society. It was started in the 1980s and continues to this day.
Volunteers get together on the morning of the first Sunday of every month, to distribute monthly food rations to needy families. They start the food distribution with a prayer. The packages are then loaded into cars. Volunteers are divided into teams and each team covers several families. The recipients are from low-income families who are in need of support. The volunteers lovingly interact with the elderly family members and try to fulfill their requirements. For instance, some may be diabetic and need a slightly different set of dry rations. Sometimes, the volunteers get to joyously celebrate birthdays of the residents.
Food packing is done a day before the distribution. Volunteers come together and assemble the packages, including for those with special needs like diabetes. Food packages are assembled and labeled quickly and efficiently by the team. Please join the seva to be a part of the camaraderie and teamwork during food packing.
